"A self-proclaimed “feminist’s answer to porn,” Cooking With Candice is LA-based Alanna Pearl’s directorial debut, offering a bold response to a highly stigmatized industry through her campy aesthetic lens. The 16-minute short stars Candice a.k.a. “Flamingo Vintage,” who’s preparing (tying up) a turkey (living, breathing woman) in the kitchen—a narrative that’s “made to make you think, as well as laugh about what is all so hush hush with something that is only natural in today’s world.”There’s an intentionally surreal quality to the project, which filmmaker Shelby Sells captured on a VHS to strengthen the clip’s classic, vintage appeal. We’re unsure if Candice is actually cooking real women or if she’s fantasizing about the bondage sexcapade, all while tackling a traditional dinner. Featuring an original score by Unkle Funkle of White Fang & The Memories, Cooking With Candice sparks conversations surrounding femininity, sex, porn, honesty and camp culture.
